How to play soccer

Soccer is a worldwide sport that has been popular for hundreds of years. It is a game primarily played with the feet, though hands, chest and head are used in certain situations. Soccer is a team sport played with 11 players per team. Though indoor soccer has grown in popularity, it is typically played outdoors on a grassy field.

There are four main positions in soccer – the goalkeeper, the defense players, the halfbacks, and the forwards. The object of the game is to score as many points as possible during game time by kicking the ball into the opposing team’s goal. The rules for soccer are published by FIFA, the world soccer governing body. Equipment required to play soccer consists of only a stitched soccer ball and rubber cleats and shin guards for every player.

Similarities are present between soccer and other sports such as basketball, hockey, and football. Soccer teams work together passing and dribbling the ball with their feet to move the ball down the field towards the opposing goal. The goalkeeper works alone to prevent the team from scoring by blocking the ball with their body. During a soccer game, an official referees the game to determine fouls, possessions, etc.

To play soccer, a player should be well-conditioned, as there is a great deal of running up and down the field. Players will need to practice passing and dribbling the ball in addition to kicking. In the beginning, young players may find it difficult to coordinate running and handling the ball simultaneously. Besides being a great physical activity, soccer is an exiting team sport for both players and spectators.
